Waistcoats

This early noughties fashion staple is making a comeback. I am sure you can all remember Kate Moss’s iconic nights out and festival attire in the early 2000s wearing a waistcoat, usually with a tiny pair of denim shorts. Influential models, like Kendall Jenner, and the street style influencers are now wearing them as part of their outfits. The Autumn Winter 2022 catwalk shows had lots of tailoring and some included a waistcoat in the collections.

This selection of images shows Kate Moss, Kendall Jenner, Blake Lively and other street style images of how to style your waistcoat. These are a mixture of tailored, knitted and a velvet outfit too.

How to style them

Wear them now on their own but as the weather starts to get cooler then they can be layered over shirts and long sleeve tops. As we move further into the autumn season then you will start to see knitted variations and velvet options too. Ensure your trousers are a wider leg shape so that your look is not dated, these can be tailored trousers in the same fabric or a contrast to the waistcoat or a nice baggy denim jean. The outfit can be styled up with pointed heels or down with trainers or sandals while it is still warm enough. There is lots of choice on the high street at the moment if you want to invest in this piece but also be sure to check out preloved sites and charity shops.
